Growing exotic plants from seed to adult palm at home has become very popular. This is not surprising. Palm trees, including banana ones, are a real decoration of the interior, decorated in any style. Of course, these are not the giants that grow in the tropics and bear sweet fruits. It's about decorative banana palms. It is quite possible to grow them from a seed and it is not as difficult as it seems at first.

Instructions

Step 1

Bananas propagate by seeds that have a tough shell. In order for the seed to sprout, it is necessary to cut its shell so that water penetrates to the plant embryo. Scarification can be done with sandpaper, a knife or a needle. Make sure that the shell is not completely pierced, otherwise the seed will die. Then process the seeds by placing them in a saturated solution of potassium permanganate for 30 minutes. Pour the prepared substrate with the same solution. It is very important that both the substrate and the container in which the banana will be planted are sterile. The seed sprouts for a long time - up to 3 months, and during all this time no bacteria or insects should start in the substrate, otherwise the seed will simply rot.

Step 2

Take a plastic cup, pour drainage into it (expanded clay, small stones, broken tiles), and on top - a substrate with a layer of 4 cm. The substrate should be light, ¼ consisting of peat and ¾ of washed river sand. Make a hole at the bottom of the cup to avoid stagnation of the earth, followed by decay of the roots of the seedlings. You should leave a little space so that the seedlings do not rest against the glass, which will need to cover the banana seed.

Step 3

Place this mini-plate in a bright place. All the time while the seed is sprouting, the substrate must be constantly moistened through the pan, because it is not recommended to open the seedlings. Do not overheat the greenhouse, otherwise the young shoots will cook. If any signs of mold appear, the substrate is spilled with a solution of potassium permanganate, and the glass is washed with soap.

Step 4

All these precautions are needed only during seed germination and strengthening of young shoots. Over the course of a year, these small sprouts will turn into a strong and large banana with a stem diameter of 15 cm, which will support the ceiling.

Step 5

But for a palm tree to grow quickly, you need a lot of moisture, light and heat. Transplant your banana regularly as soon as you notice that it has slowed down its development. By the year, the banana will need a large floor pot with a volume of 40 liters.

Step 6

Ornamental bananas have a short lifespan. As cereals, they grow rapidly, bear fruit and die. However, in the place of the dead plant, many shoots will appear, which you can plant in pots and give to your friends.
