Any knitted product assumes beautiful edges along the hem, cuffs, leg bottoms, hood or neckline. Correctly knitted, they give a neat look and aesthetics. The main thing is to choose one way or another, thanks to which the thing will really look complete. Edges can be positioned horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

Step 1
Vertical edge To make the canvas look even vertically, edge loops must be made. This means that at the beginning of each row, do not forget to remove the first loop without knitting. The only mistake will ruin the product, and it will be impossible to fix it, you will have to redo the work.
Step 2
Teeth They can be made both horizontally and vertically. To do this, on the right side, dial the loops (or continue those that have already been typed on the knitting needles) and knit several rows, the number of which depends on the selected width of the finishing edge. Moreover, the front rows should be knitted with front loops, and the purl, respectively, purl. Then follow the pattern: * 1 yarn over, 2 knit loops, knitted together *. Knit the entire row with this pattern, and follow each subsequent one according to the pattern, that is, alternate the purl rows with the front ones. The number of rows must match the originally selected number of rows already knitted. Make a fold that forms well at the crochet and double stitches. To secure the hem, close the loops and sew on. You can do it differently. To do this, make a fold, then crochet the loops in succession while simultaneously "sewing" them from the inside out to the main product.
Step 3
Double (hollow) elastic band Where a cord is expected, you can make a double or hollow elastic band, which holds the shape well and serves the purpose of the drawstring. If the product starts from the edge of the hollow elastic, then dial double the number of loops for work. Having previously removed the first edge loop, start knitting according to the following scheme: * 1 front loop, 1 loop is removed *. Make sure that the working thread is in the middle between the two halves of the elastic. In each subsequent row, continue to work according to the same scheme, only knit the already removed loop with the front one, and remove the second one. As a result, you will get a double elastic band, the width of which is determined depending on the intended shape of the edge. After completing the elastic, knit the loops in pairs and continue knitting with the main pattern. If a hollow elastic is supposed to be at the end of knitting of the main product, then get the same number of loops that is already on the knitting needles, and then tie the elastic. When finished, close the loops, given that the penultimate row needs to be knitted with front loops in pairs.
Step 4
Decrease Sometimes it is necessary to make a bevel along the edge, for example, if a skewed skirt or V-neck is knitted. In this case, to make the edge loops look even, and the decrease has a decorative look, make it "bunches". To do this, remove the first edge loop, then knit 3-4 loops together (depending on the angle). Continue knitting with the main pattern. After a few rows, repeat the decrease in the same way. As a result, you will get a beautiful original edge, which will additionally be decorated with "bundles" of loops.
