You can, of course, knit the most complex patterns, but for a start it is good to master what is available to any person, regardless of his knitting skills, the technique of the double crochet and without and a lush column.

Step 1
Attach the thread to the far right loop of your knit with two to three knots. Make one chain stitch - pass the hook under the base loop thread and pull the working thread outward. Insert the hook into the 2 loop of the base, throw a working thread over it (away from you), pull it through the loop. Now you have 2 loops on your hook. Make another yarn over and pass the thread through both loops. Thread the hook into the second loop of the base and repeat the same process. Tie a single crochet over the entire edge of your garment. If you decide to make another row, add one stitch after the last stitch, flip the piece from right to left and continue knitting in the same pattern.
Step 2
For a more airy edge, it's best to use a double crochet. After knitting the air loop, make one yarn over (away from you) and insert the hook into the second loop of the base, pull the thread through it. Make a yarn over, pass the thread over the leftmost loop on the left hook and the previous yarn over. Make another yarn over and pull it through the two remaining loops on the hook.
Step 3
Another option, the most decorative of the listed ones, is lush columns. Knit the first row with single crochets and make two air loops for lifting. From the first loop of the base, knit a lush column: make a yarn, pass the hook under both threads of the loop of the base, pull out the working thread, make another yarn, and then thread the hook again into the same hole and pull out the thread, repeat this process 2-3 times. After that, make another yarn over and knit all the loops on the hook together - you get one loop. Yarn over and knit. Cast on 2 air loops, skip one base loop and on the next - repeat the whole algorithm for creating a fluffy column.
