The bat is a very symbolic image. It is perceived differently in different cultures. Possessing a dual nature, this mammal symbolizes in European culture duplicity, witchcraft, revenge, but at the same time wisdom and resourcefulness. In Far Eastern cultures (China, Vietnam), the bat, on the contrary, is a positive symbol - it personifies happiness, luck, wealth. The bat was also revered by the Mayan tribes, and in Africa it is considered a symbol of discernment and darkness. Despite the unpleasant appearance of the animal in reality, the image of a bat in art is very popular and is not devoid of beauty and mystery.

Instructions

Step 1

Explore photographs and realistic illustrations of these animals to create a true bat image. The main characteristic features of the image are wide and rather graceful webbed wings and long, petal-shaped ears sticking up the sides of the small, round head. Therefore, focus your main efforts on drawing these particular parts of the bat's body. It is the beautiful and expressive lines of the wings and long ears that will convey the character of the animal, especially if you are trying to give the image a symbolic meaning.

Step 2

The most popular option for depicting a bat is drawing an animal with wings spread wide in night flight against the background of a full moon. Sketch the silhouette of the mouse, inscribing it in the shape of a bold checkmark, the sides of which are the wings of a bat, and the bottom corner is its short tail. For more "liveliness", you can make the drawing slightly asymmetrical. Draw with light sketching strokes and lines.

Step 3

In the center of the checkmark, draw a round head fused with an oval body. On both sides of the head there are large, erect ears in the form of petals, which are located like on the head of a dog or a squirrel. The height of the ears is equal to the height of the head, but for more expressiveness, especially in stylized images, they can be made almost twice as large. If your drawing suggests such detail, then draw a bat face. The nose is a small patch, beady eyes. For a more intimidating look, you can draw an open mouth with sharp teeth.

Step 4

Draw the characteristic wings of the animal. In their drawing, the skeleton is clearly visible, consisting of a long bone of the forearm and five fingers radiating from one point, of which four are slightly longer than the forearm, and the fifth is a short process in the form of a claw. The skeleton of the wings and short tail is the skeleton on which the skin membrane is stretched. It looks like an irregularly shaped open umbrella. When the animal is illuminated by the moon from behind, this membrane can be drawn translucent in combination with the dark frame lines of the graceful wing bones.

Step 5

Now that the outline of the bat has been created, draw it in more detail in the manner and technique you choose that best conveys your artistic intent. Whether realistic, animated, cartoonish or fantasy style - any pictorial style has the means to create a very expressive and memorable image of this extraordinary animal.
