One of the most important tools among all the auxiliary equipment is the grinding machine. The construction of the grinder is very simple and requires simple materials to make. Most families living in their home have a DIY grinder.
Instructions
Step 1
You can use an electric motor from an old washing machine. Its power will be enough to sharpen the necessary tools. You will also need a starter and a piece of wire from old equipment.
Step 2
First, you need to prepare the installation site for the future grinding machine. It is safer to place it on a metal workbench. To do this, place the electric motor with the mountings on the workbench tabletop and mark the locations of the bolt holes. Remove the motor and drill 4 holes. Install the motor and secure it with bolts.
Step 3
The electric motor already has a shaft on which you will put the abrasive stone. If the diameter of the shaft coincides with the diameter of the hole in the stone, you just have to put the washer on the shaft, then the stone, again the washer and put the fastening nut, having previously cut the threads on the shaft.
Step 4
If the diameter of the shaft is less than the diameter of the hole in the stone, you need to add a sleeve that slides over the shaft. In this bushing, make a special groove and a hole for the bolt so that you can fix the bushing on the shaft, and it does not turn with the abrasive stone during operation. At the end of the bushing, also cut a right-hand thread in the direction of rotation of the stone to secure the stone with washers and a nut.
Step 5
Connect the wire to the starter. The electric motor itself does not need additional protection and is safe when open, but it is better to design a metal box. This will protect your structure from dust.
Step 6
For safety reasons, install a glass screen to keep stone dust out of your eyes and respiratory tract. Also install the protective cover. It should cover two-thirds of the end of the abrasive stone. You can make it from an old car camera. If the whetstone cracks, the pieces will remain in the casing and will not harm you.
