Solleyrolia, or helksine, is appreciated by some, and is considered by some as a weed. But it is an incredibly hardy and sturdy plant that spreads tirelessly like the rising tide.
How to grow and care for Salleurolium?
Soleirolium will grow well in light, moderately cool rooms. Although it will withstand the most critical low temperatures, up to frost. It will also take out bright lighting, unless the sun's rays are burning for the leaves.
What the plant will not forgive is dry air and high temperatures. If at such a moment the plant is placed on a pallet with small pebbles (expanded clay drainage), half filled with water and sprayed with lukewarm water, then it will survive such an unsuccessful period.
How to water and feed the plant?
The compost in the pot should be kept moist. But do not allow "waterlogging" and wetting of the roots. It is better not to water salt with cold water. Since watering from above can provoke rotting of juicy leaves, the plant must be watered into a pan, and after an hour, drain the excess water.
During active growth, salteyrolia is fed every three to four weeks with a complex mineral flower fertilizer. In winter, fertilize once a month.
Transplantation and reproduction of saline
In the spring, as needed, the plant is transplanted into 10-15cm pots with pallets into a flower nutrient soil with drainage at the bottom, watered.
Plants are propagated by simple division into small bunches with roots. Then they are temporarily placed in partial shade until they take root.
Possible growing problems
As a rule, saltium is not susceptible to pests and diseases. Overdried compost in a pot or dry air can cause wilting. Or, due to improper watering, brown spots or leaves crumble on the plant.
Purpose and durability of the plant
Soleirolia forms a dense shock of fine greenery that falls beautifully from the pot. It is planted to the bare trunks of such plants as dracaena, yucca, cordilina, palm and others. Solleyrolia, with its growing branches, effectively hides such shortcomings of tall "partners". But it is necessary to ensure that it does not "strangle" high culture.
Salleurolium plants live for many years, with proper care and the condition that they are systematically rejuvenated, as they grow too quickly.
In culture, saltyrolia is grown with green, silvery and yellow leaves.
