Sometimes you can look at the bud or stem of a gladiolus for hours, twirl it in your hands and each time discover something new for yourself, wanting to depict a flower on canvas. Not only a person with great artistic knowledge will be able to catch the play of shadows, reveal the harmony of interconnections of structure, form and content in the form of color filling, you can try it too.
Instructions
Step 1
A competent drawing means correctly chosen proportions, a good background, a sense of light, the ability to choose the right shades of color and a great desire for everything to work out for you. Before drawing a gladiolus, consider the very structure of the flower. What are its leaves, the shape of the inflorescences, pay attention to the texture of all the components. To understand what it is, compare a petal, for example, a rose and a gladiolus, feel them with your fingers. Tangibility is the main assistant on the path to success.
Step 2
If you are a beginner, then practice looking for the correct lines, outlines that can teach you how to compare what you see and what you have drawn. Do not rush to draw the flower as you see it. "Expand" it into simple geometric shapes and sketch them on paper. This is how the flower scheme will turn out.
Step 3
Fundamental to the drawing is a sketch of the overall silhouette. If you managed to convey the shape of the gladiolus inflorescences, then you are halfway to success. Always try to find graphical elements in the subject. Petals can be round, cylindrical, oval. It is easy to figure this out by applying individual parts of the flower to a sheet of paper. This is the easiest drawing method. If you feel the scale, you can easily adjust any dimensions.
Step 4
Draw a diagram. Smooth sharp corners, remove unnecessary lines. Draw out the buds and select the opened leaves on them. Make the edge of the sheet wavy. Try to avoid jagged lines and sharp corners.
Step 5
Draw two or three flowers. Start with the leaves. Their length should be equal to 2/3 of the stem. The leaves are narrow and sharp. Draw a line in the center of each, and draw veins from it with thin strokes. Give volume to the stem with side hatching.
Step 6
Color in the drawing. Give preference to watercolors, paint to go to a translucent layer, and therefore you will be able to see graphic lines well.
