For walking on the water, fishing and tourism, a homemade plywood boat is quite suitable. You can build such a boat in your home workshop if you stock up on the necessary materials and tools.
It is necessary
Waterproof plywood or hardboard, wood blocks, fiberglass, epoxy resin, waterproof paint, fasteners, electric drill, clamps, hacksaw, plane
Instructions
Step 1
The main question that you should decide before starting shipbuilding work is the choice of material for the skin. It is best to use 5mm waterproof plywood. Plain plywood will work too, but in this case you will need to protect the outer surface from water with glass cloth or paint. Another option for hulling a ship is hardboard. It is recommended that this waterproof board be treated with several coats of epoxy.
Step 2
Wooden parts are best made from softwood without knots and twines. Hardwoods may not withstand high humidity. The wood materials must be dried beforehand.
Step 3
Mark the workpieces in accordance with the drawings. This applies to the contours of the side skins and frames. It is convenient to draw smooth, curved lines with a long rod, which should be flexible enough. After drawing the contours, cut the sheets, while providing for about two millimeters of allowance - you will need it when processing with a plane.
Step 4
Draw other details on a sheet of plywood or just on a leveled surface - transoms and bulkheads, frames.
Step 5
Connect the parts of the boat bottom plating with each other using paper clips. Fastening elements should be applied from the inside of the future boat. Turn the boat hull upside down, place the sheathing sheets on the sides. Drill holes in the sheets, then use wire clips. The ends of the staples should be twisted.
Step 6
Treat the joints between the sheets with a putty made from epoxy binder and wood flour.
Step 7
Prepare fiberglass tapes 3 cm wide. Apply epoxy glue along the joints and apply the tape so that it is symmetrical on both sides of the seam. Smooth the tape carefully.
Step 8
Using the clamps, glue the fenders to the edge of the fender rail. The inner surfaces of the case should be coated with linseed oil and painted. The deck and seat sheets should be carefully fitted in place and secured with nails and glue.
Step 9
Before painting the body, it should be prepared by sanding it with sandpaper and drying oil. After the surface is dry, the irregularities should be puttied. When painting the cabinet, use waterproof exterior paint. First, the primer is applied, and then two or three main layers of paint.
Step 10
Make the steering wheel out of thicker plywood. However, you can use a thin one, gluing the steering wheel from several layers. Cover the finished steering wheel with fiberglass.
