From the biography of Evgeny Gavrilovich Kibkalo
The future famous opera singer and teacher was born in Kiev on February 12, 1932. As a child, Zhenya really wanted to become a military man and even studied at a special air force school located in Dnepropetrovsk. However, he was destined to become famous in a different field.
In 1956 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, having received a solid professional education. His mentor was Vladimir Politkovsky. In the same year, Kibkalo became a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater.
When learning to sing, Eugene, later known for his baritone, started out as a bass - his voice allowed him to easily take the lower notes in the counter-octave. Kibkalo's internship took place in 1963 at the Teatro alla Scala.
During his singing career, Eugene had to systematically strain the vocal apparatus. This led to chronic circulatory disorders in the vocal folds and the formation of the so-called singing nodule. In 1976, the singer underwent surgery, which was unsuccessful. Kibkalo was forced to leave the stage. He focused on teaching. From the late 70s to the end of his life, Evgeny Gavrilovich worked at the Moscow Conservatory.
In 1970, Yevgeny Kibkalo became the People's Artist of the RSFSR. The singer and teacher also earned the title of professor.
The outstanding tenor of our time passed away in Moscow on February 12, 2003. Kibkalo's ashes rest at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.

The experts noted the singer's voice, unique in its beauty and richness. Kibkalo demonstrated high talent for singing. His voice is still considered the standard of baritone sound. Eugene's voice was characterized by smoothed voice registers and a perfectly even timbre.
The sonority of Kibkalo's voice, his soft timbre with a free swing upward allowed the singer to perform lyrical parts (Figaro, Mizgir, Onegin, Petruchio). A strong stage temperament made it possible to perform dramatic roles (Bolkonsky, Meresiev, Gryaznoy).
Many people remember Kibkalo as a pop artist. His repertoire contained compositions of a patriotic, heroic, lyrical and romantic nature: "Komsomol members", "Song of anxious youth", "Sports march", "Aviamarsh", "Farewell, rocky mountains". In the 60s, Evgeny Gavrilovich took an active part in the filming of the famous "Blue Light".
The singer took part in the work on the films-operas "Eugene Onegin", "The Queen of Spades". In 1977, Kibaklo successfully performed the song “If the boys of the whole earth” as part of the film-concert “Years of Peaceful Achievements” from the series “Anthology of Soviet Songs”.
