To build your own castle on paper does not take as much effort and practice as it might seem at first glance. Of course, the architectural structure of the fortress of a beginner and a professional artist will have differences, but rather in the design of trifles than in general things.

Step 1
Imagine what the final result should look like. Before tackling a brush or pencil, it is important to imagine what you want to end up with. Watch historical films, pictures on the Internet, or books with photographs of ancient buildings. Highlight for yourself certain little things that you like and which you would like to use in your drawing. Pay attention to the rules by which the building is designed.
Step 2
Make your first sketches. It is best to start either from the side towers or directly from the main gate to the castle. If there is a moat around the castle, note that the drawbridge is several times larger than the gate itself. This ensures its stability and good cross-country ability.
Step 3
Watch out for proportions. It is unlikely that you will find buildings that have small gates and huge watchtowers. There are other things that can look quite comical if you do not make sure that all items match. As a rule, they are not so noticeable in the process of the work itself and begin to "catch the eye" only when the final touch is made.
Step 4
Determine which of the little things you can do. For example, the traced masonry of the wall looks very impressive. But remember that if the drawing fails, most likely, the drawing will have to start over.
Step 5
Try also to add highlights on trellises and chains, shadows on towers, or place the coat of arms of a county or principality on the castle walls. All these little things are secondary, but they add completeness and uniqueness to the picture. Try to diversify your drawings with other little things. The more practice you have, the better it will be.
