There are some things and knowledge that are needed in everyday life. Some of them help a person survive in an unforeseen situation. It is to this knowledge that the lessons of tourists belong. Once in a forest or mountains, being cut off from civilization, you must be able to find yourself water and food, arrange a lodging for the night, make a fire. In addition, you must be able to navigate the terrain and determine the time using the Sun, Moon and stars. There are several methods for determining the time without a clock. The simplest of these is compass timing.

It is necessary

  • - compass;
  • - pencil.

Instructions

Step 1

First, determine the azimuth of the Sun. To do this, place the compass on a level surface and release the magnetic needle brake. Turn the compass until the north end of the arrow is opposite the zero mark. Then set the sighting device in the direction of the sun. The reading of the scale against the front sight of the sight will be the value of the magnetic azimuth of the Sun. Divide this value by 15 (the amount of rotation of the Sun per hour). The resulting figure will mean local time.

Step 2

However, as experts say, the Earth's magnetic field is not uniform, and therefore the accuracy of time, determined by the compass, is quite relative. And the time by the Sun can be determined only during the day. Therefore, it is also possible to determine the time without a clock using the ancient Russian method, which hunters still use.

Step 3

Take a pencil in your left hand if you need to know the time in the morning. Press the pencil against your palm with your thumb so that it stands upright. Stand in such a way that the fingers of the open palm point to the west, i.e. where the sun sets.

Step 4

Determine the approximate time from the shadow of the pencil, taking into account that on the improvised dial-palm, the little finger will mean 4 o'clock, the ring finger - 5 o'clock, the middle one - 6 o'clock, the index finger - 7 o'clock. The rest of the clock digits are evenly spaced on the sides of the palm.

Step 5

If you want to know the time in the afternoon, then the pencil should be held in the right hand, and the fingers of the open palm should point to the east.

Step 6

Another way to tell the time without a clock is to observe the flowers and birds that are found in the area. As you know, each flower has a certain time at which they open and close. For example, in central Russia, a dandelion opens at 6-7 am and closes at 15-16. Birds also wake up each at its own time, for example, a sparrow - at 6-7 o'clock, and a tit - at 5-6 o'clock in the morning.
