Colored glass in its classical sense is an expensive item, because its production is laborious. Judge for yourself, you need to cut out the elements of the intended picture from glass, frame with a lead frame around the entire perimeter, and then solder with the rest, similarly prepared, elements. Only a professional can do it. Therefore, imitation of stained-glass windows is now popular.
It is necessary
- - acetone;
- - glass;
- - wire;
- - aniline dyes.
Instructions
Step 1
Start with design. Surely you have decided what drawing you want to see on colored glass. Draw the outline of the pattern on whatman paper, cardboard, or graph paper. You can circle the finished drawings. Mark on which element which color will be located.
Step 2
Degrease the glass, for which wipe the future colored side with a cotton pad dipped in acetone, and attach a drawing to the back side.
Step 3
Lay the glass horizontally. Bend the wires along the contour of the drawing and lubricate them with PVA emulsion on one side - the one that will be adjacent to the glass. Wait an hour and a half for the wires to stick.
Step 4
While the glue dries, tackle the paint. Dissolve aniline dyes in distilled water, strain the solution. Mix it with PVA emulsion until the consistency of cream is fluid, but not liquid.
Step 5
Apply the sample colors to a small piece of glass. When it dries, you will see the color and, if necessary, correct it. Pour the paints into glass jars and cover them with something to keep them from drying out.
Step 6
Start applying color to the glass: gradually pour the solution along the contour with a brush, going deeper towards the center of the element. Control the thickness of the paint layer, it will affect the color saturation and surface uniformity.
Here it is necessary not to miscalculate, to apply carefully, but rather quickly, since the already dried paint, mixing with new portions, will create a defect. If this happens, it is better to wipe off the paint from this element, let it dry and reapply.
Step 7
Try not to paint adjacent pieces in a row, let the paint dry out - in case the wire is not completely caught somewhere, and there are gaps through which paint can leak.
Step 8
When everything is dry, look at the back of your stained glass. If necessary, mask sloppy places, for example, where the wire is poorly glued. Before fixing the colored glass, tint the fixings to match some element of the work. If you wish, you can fix the surface with varnish.
