Breaking Bad, an American TV series created by Vince Gilligan, will enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest rated TV series in 2014. The final series attracted more than ten million viewers from the screens, and on the popular website Metacritic, its rating was 99 points out of a hundred. Why is this series so popular and why did it interest so many people?
To begin with, serials have recently ceased to be a low-quality product created for the entertainment of housewives and retirees. The budget of many of them is comparable to the budget of a big Hollywood film, and the names of the honored meters of the film industry are increasingly slipping in the credits. Lovers of good cinema have migrated to television screens in search of worthy projects.
This gave impetus to the opening of many decent series - one of which turned out to be "Breaking bad" (in the original - "Breaking bad"). Launched in 2008, it quickly earned the love of audiences and critical acclaim.
The plot revolves around a fifty-year-old chemistry teacher who learns that he has lung cancer. This news makes him wonder if he lived right all this time. Was there any point in observing all laws and morals, if in the end after his death he cannot leave anything for his family.
The evolution of the protagonist from a quiet loser to a calculating criminal is interesting to watch. This entire path was conveyed with great meticulousness. Guilt and pangs of conscience for the crimes committed are gradually disappearing. In their place comes pride and self-awareness.
Breaking bad broke the Hollywood template in which anyone is a potential hero, capable of handling weapons and cold-bloodedly make any sacrifices. In the case, in which the main character got involved, at first he makes very hesitant steps, often stumbling and falling. But the more firmly he stands on his feet, the more terrifying it becomes. Euphoria and a sense of superiority draws in and displaces past experiences.
With each season, the plot develops more and more rapidly, the series is gaining power and rivets to the screen millions of viewers, including such prominent industry figures as Stephen King and George R. R. Martin. "Breaking Bad" gives rise to many controversies, but the fact that it will forever remain one of the best series is beyond doubt.
