The art of mosaic has been known since ancient times and over the years of its existence has been enriched with a variety of various techniques. You can spend many months studying them, but even for those who start from scratch, the result is sometimes flawless. You just need to follow the rules for working with mosaics.

Step 1
All mosaics can be divided into two groups according to the shape of their parts. Those paintings that are assembled from pieces of the same size and shape are called typesetting. The second group includes mosaics assembled from different fragments - piece.
Step 2
Depending on which type of mosaic you plan to fold, you will need to select consumables. For typesetting, you can buy ready-made parts at an art supply store. They can be made from glazed ceramics, natural stone or glass. At home, it is unlikely that it will be possible to make exactly the same mosaic components with a perfectly flat edge.
Step 3
But from the materials at hand, it is quite possible to make pieces for piece work. For this, fragments of old unused ceramic tiles, shells collected on the seashore, beautiful pebbles and even pieces of plastic are suitable. Often for these purposes, CDs are cut into fragments (their mirror side is used).
Step 4
If you are making a mosaic at home, first of all prepare the drawing that you want to lay out. Draw it on paper, break it into pieces and paint over with color. Put the diagram on the table and fold this picture from the finished mosaic pieces next to it. Planning in this way will help minimize typing errors.
Step 5
The surface on which you will glue the parts must be cleaned - remove loose paint, paper, wash and degrease. Then, with the help of a ruler and a pencil, you can outline a diagram - draw a grid on the basis (if the fragments do not differ very much in size) or at least several anchor points to which you can orient.
Step 6
Using a notched trowel, apply the mosaic adhesive to the surface (this can be a special compound or a multi-purpose adhesive - check the packaging for the indication of its suitability for your materials). It is not worth treating the entire surface with an adhesive at once, especially if it is large. It is easier to work in separate areas. Then take the first piece of the mosaic and place it on fresh glue. Lay out all the fragments in succession, in rows. Since the pattern is already laid out on the table, you are unlikely to get tangled when gluing it.
Step 7
The distance between the fragments should be approximately the same. When the laying is completed, it is filled with tile grout. The color of the grout can be chosen to match the pattern or made in contrast.
