Probably, not all readers know that the Soviet fairy-tale character Buratino had, and indeed has, an "older brother." His name is Pinocchio. And he "came out" 53 years earlier than Pinocchio thanks to the creation of the Italian Carlo Collodi "Pinocchio, or the Adventures of a Wooden Doll." Two "wooden boys" from fairy tales, at the end of their stories turned into ordinary boys, have a lot in common. But there are also serious biographical differences.

Pinocchio: not a day without adventure

Business card

Name - Buratino (translated from Italian "burattino" means "wooden doll"). Was born in 1936 in the USSR. "Parents" - the author of the Soviet analogue of the Italian fairy tale called "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino" Alexei Nikolaevich Tolstoy and his fairy-tale character named Carlo, a beggar organ-grinder.

short biography

Jumping out of the log in Carlo's hut, where there is not even a real hearth, the naughty and restless Buratino soon ran away from home and school. But he ran away with a noble purpose, hoping to get rich quickly and buy a jacket for his father. The funniest things Pinocchio never did: taking part in a dinner at the Three Minnows tavern with crooks Alice and Basilio; burying coins in the Field of Miracles in anticipation of the rapid emergence of untold wealth.

Pinocchio: sometimes a dog, then a donkey

Business card

Name - Pinocchio (in Italian - "pine nut"). Was born in 1883 in Italy. “Parents” are the writer Carlo Collodi and his fairytale character Gepetto, a watchmaker and toy maker.

short biography

She, naturally, is similar to the biography of the "younger brother", but differs in a number of details. For example, the fact that "dad" Pinocchio was far from poor and lived in the house not alone, but with pets. The most ridiculous actions of Pinocchio that Pinocchio never did: turning into a donkey, from whose skin a drum was almost made; protection of the chicken coop of a peasant who took him to work as a "watchdog".

The Golden Key is not the only work based on the fairy tale by Carlo Collodi. Only in the USSR were Elena Danko's story "The Defeated Karabas" published, the tale of Leonid Vladimirsky "Buratino is looking for treasure" and others.

Russian originality of the Italian "boy"

With all the obvious similarity of the plot, and Alexei Tolstoy did not hide the fact that when preparing a book about Buratino's adventures, he used Collodi's fabulous work as the original (by the way, maybe this is why the poor organ-grinder got the name Carlo?), The main characters have sufficient originality. And therefore, they often find themselves in completely different situations.

An important difference between the two "wooden boys": Pinocchio was seriously helped by a young fairy with azure hair. But Buratino quickly escaped from the obsessive care of Malvina and her too clever poodle Artemon. In addition, Pinocchio always and everywhere accompanied a cricket named Jiminy. Buratino, having offended his Talking Cricket in the opening of the fairy tale, builds up relations with him only closer to the finale.

The feature of Pinocchio's long nose can also be considered significant. After all, when "Pine Nut" tried to deceive someone, his nose immediately began to grow, betraying a lie. Buratino's nose was always in order.

An interesting difference between the two characters is also the fact that in Italy there is a monument with the inscription “Immortal Pinocchio - grateful readers”. In the USSR and Russia, only lemonade and a flamethrower system were named after Buratino.

Here in what Pinocchio clearly surpassed his "younger brother", so it is in cruelty. In addition to hitting the unfortunate Jiminy with a hammer, he also bit off Kota's paw. And in the end he was punished - he lost his burnt wooden legs.

Finally, during endless wanderings and searches for wealth, fate brings Pinocchio to the Isle of Bees. Buratino, after visiting the Country of Fools, meets the wise turtle Tortila and its frogs. They help not only to find the Golden Key, but also to return to the already opened hearth in the house of Pope Carlo.
