Matching by ear is one of the types of exercises in solfeggio classes. In practical terms, this skill is necessary when "reshooting" musical works, the notes of which are difficult or impossible to get. The ability to quickly select a piece largely determines the professionalism of a musician.
Instructions
Step 1
The ability to pick notes by ear cannot be viewed in isolation from other theoretical disciplines. In other words, you cannot recognize a chord without knowing the notes. Therefore, the first discipline you need to master is elementary music theory.
In addition to, in fact, the names of the notes, within the framework of this subject the range of tonalities, keys, and the basics of the musical language are studied.
Step 2
Write dictations in solfeggio: from the simplest monophonic to complex four-part, as your hearing develops. To do this, ask a musician friend or teacher to play a melody of 4-8 measures on the piano and, without looking at the notes and at the keyboard, write the melody in the notes.
The melody is played 8-12 times, depending on the complexity of the dictation and the level of the student's training. Before the start of the recording, the student independently determines the size and mode, and the teacher names the key. In some cases, for the development of absolute pitch, the student determines the key.
If you cannot find a teacher, play it and record the dictations in audio files and play it back. Be honest with yourself: don't memorize the notes of the melody.
Step 3
When choosing by ear dictations from two or more voices, as well as songs, listen first of all to the lower voice - the bass. In pop songs, as a rule (but not always), he plays the prima chord. When choosing songs, among other things, try to play along with the recordings the second time, dubbing the bass on an available instrument.
Based on the bass, the selection of the melody and echoes is much easier: it becomes obvious to you that the sound of the melody belongs to the current chord or is not a chord.
Step 4
Train every day. Pick up at least one full song per week, but increase the volume to seven songs as you progress. Taking long breaks from classes will affect your hearing development.
Step 5
Complicate the task: identify not only the chords and melody, but also the instrument by ear. Write out a batch of each tool on a separate mill. Sing the melody to memorize it.
