Silk is an ancient and complex fabric, and therefore the relationship with this wonderful material is also difficult. The length of a silk thread is from 800 to 1000 m. This thread has a triangular cross-section and, like a prism, reflects light, as a result of which silk has an incredibly beautiful shimmer and shine. Natural silk is a very expensive material and it will be a shame to spoil the product. So how do you make a silk blouse that flaunts this wonderful fabric?
It is necessary
silk, special scissors for working with fine fabrics, fine needles, threads
Instructions
Step 1
When choosing a model for sewing a silk blouse, take into account that you should not overload a silk blouse with complex cut and details. It is better to choose a loose fit model. This fabric looks great when it falls freely, as if "showing" all its beauty and plasticity.
Step 2
The first difficulty a dressmaker faces is cutting the fabric. The fabric is very slippery and tries to "run away" all the time. For cutting slippery and delicate fabrics such as silk, use special scissors that have serrated blades, the fabric is held by such scissors, does not slip or run away.
Step 3
Silk has another unpleasant feature that it rips apart at the seams, so novice dressmakers do not like to work with this fabric. It is quite possible to strengthen the seams using a method called "Hong Kong". Cut out the pieces from the main fabric, leaving 1.5 cm for seam allowances. Cut the lining using the patterns you used to cut the shelves and back. On the side seams, the middle of the back, front and shoulder seams, leave additional allowances of 1, 3 cm. Total, the allowances on these seams of the lining will be 2, 8 cm. carefully connecting all the cuts of the parts. Be sure to test the sewing machine on unnecessary pieces of fabric by debugging the stitching. Set the stitch length on the sewing machine to a short stitch length, max. 2 mm.
Step 4
Sew the main parts with the lining parts, leaving 6 millimeters wide allowances. Leave the cuts of the neck, armholes and bottom unprocessed. Then turn the parts right out and lay them flat on the table.
Step 5
On the lining, press the folds past the edges of the main parts. This will place the allowances inside the folds. Sew all the details as usual. With this seam treatment, all sections will be hidden inside the lining. And they will look just amazing.
Step 6
A cover or lining can provide a beautiful fit of a silk blouse of an adjacent silhouette. Although you can achieve a beautiful effect using the same fabric as a cover.
Step 7
Do not sew across the silk across the pins; holes may remain on the fabric. If the fabric is very thin and delicate, place thin paper, such as tissue paper, under the fabric when sewing. When sewing silk, use very fine needles. In this case, your silk blouse will not only be irresistible, but also well-made.
