Almost all parents of first-graders who collect their children for school are faced with the teacher's requirement to sew a cash register for letters and numbers on their own. Teachers explain this requirement by the fact that purchase cash registers are inconvenient, impractical, and cards with letters and numbers in them are too small. But how to sew the cash register correctly?
It is necessary
- - fabric for the base,
- - lining fabric,
- - cardboard for insertion,
- - film for pockets,
- - white cardboard for cards.
Instructions
Step 1
Cash registers of letters and numbers should be sewn separately - so it will be more convenient for the child. You will also need a typesetting canvas on which your first grader will lay out words and examples. First, choose a fabric for the base of the checkout. It is better to take it dense, for example denim. If you want the cash register to be on a solid base, choose cardboard for insertion. For a typesetting canvas, cardboard is required. Buy a thick film for your cash register pockets at a hardware store.
Step 2
Cut open the fabric and film. For the cash register of letters, take a base 40x30 cm, then it will turn out to be 40 cells (5 rows of 8 cells). The size of the cell is 5x4 cm. Cut 5 strips from the film, 4 cm wide and 40 cm long. Stitch the film to the base and sew the pockets.
Step 3
For the lining, take another piece of fabric 40x30 cm. Place the lining over the base, on the side where the pockets are. Sew it to the base on three sides. Turn out and sew the fourth side. If you want the cash register to turn out solid, you can put hard cardboard inside the same size as the resulting cash register.
Step 4
The cash register is sewn in the same way for numbers, only fewer cells are needed - in terms of the number of numbers and arithmetic signs. Sew it into 16 cells (4 long and 4 high), or 18 cells (6 long and 3 high). The number of cells in one row must be even so that the cash register can be folded in half.
Step 5
For the typesetting fabric, take a strip of fabric 25x15 cm. Sew two strips of film 4 cm wide to it. Do not make pockets. Sew the lining in the same way as for the checkout. It is imperative to put a cardboard inside, otherwise it will be inconvenient for the child to show the folded word to the teacher.
Step 6
The last step is making letters, numbers, punctuation marks and arithmetic signs. Cards with each letter or number need to be made 3-4 copies. Letters are needed both lowercase and uppercase. The size of the cards is approximately 3x4.5 cm, so that the top of the card looks out slightly out of the pocket.
