A helmet for role-playing games or for a historical costume is not necessary at all. It can be made from fiberglass and epoxy. It turns out something like a durable plastic that can withstand quite strong blows. To make the helmet look like metal, it needs to be painted. A plastic motorcycle helmet is painted in the same way as a homemade role-playing one.

It is necessary

  • - autoenamel of the desired color;
  • - varnish;
  • - aluminum or bronze powder;
  • - bristle brush;
  • - fine sandpaper;
  • - turpentine;
  • - a sheet of thin rigid cardboard for the stencil.

Instructions

Step 1

Make an RPG helmet by placing an epoxy-soaked fiberglass cloth over an appropriately shaped blank. You can paint it only after it is completely dry. In order for the knight's helmet to look like a real one, take a silver or bronze colored "metallic" auto enamel. It is also convenient because it is sold in cans. This packaging method allows you to make the layer even.

Step 2

Sand the homemade helmet with fine sandpaper. Remove any irregularities. Degrease the helmet with turpentine or other solvent.

Step 3

Make a silver coat yourself, if suddenly there is no car enamel of the desired color on sale. Buy PAP-2 aluminum powder and nitro varnish. Mix the ingredients in the correct proportion. The paint should be thick enough, but still be a homogeneous mixture. Homemade bronze is made in the same way from bronze powder with a fine fraction. It can be diluted with linseed oil, but it dries much slower than nitro varnish. In this case, you will have to paint with a brush. Use a medium bristle brush. Apply the paint first to the inside of the helmet and let dry. Paint the outside surface.

Step 4

Cover the helmet with varnish. If you made the silverware yourself, then an additional layer of varnish may not be needed. Of course, if the color suits you. Different varnishes can be used to give the helmet different shades. Taking a light transparent varnish, you get a bright shiny product. The material will look like shiny brushed steel. The effect of an old bronze gives a darker varnish applied over the bronze.

Step 5

A plastic motorcycle helmet is painted the same way. Such a need arises relatively rarely. Much more often it is necessary to write something on it, translate a logo or draw a flag. For a one-color design, make a stencil, attach it to the helmet with tape and fill it with auto enamel from a spray can. For a multi-color logo, make stencils for each color. They must be the same in shape and overlap strictly in the same place. Let each layer dry. Cover the drawing with varnish if necessary.
