Sound recording is the main activity of a sound engineer. However, many musicians, unable to create music in a collective and perform on stage, create studio projects in which they embody their musical ideas. In addition to the actual composer's gift, it is necessary to take care of the equipment.
It is necessary
- - a computer;
- - two microphones;
- - special software;
- - acoustic system and additional equipment.
Instructions
Step 1
A small number of requirements are imposed on the computer. First, it must have a high-quality sound card (audio card). The professional category is preferable (gaming or, moreover, built-in, will not cope with the load). The monitor should just be sized so that you don't have to squint while recording or processing audio.
Step 2
From the programs you will need sound editors (Cubase, Audacity, Sound Forge, Audition, or whatever you like). Audacity is free and the simplest of the listed sound editors. You can start your practice with it.
Step 3
Microphones must be professional. Devices for communication via Internet messengers allow a lot of interference and are not designed for the dynamics of the singer. Singing is always louder than speech, so wheezing and other overtones will appear on the recording.
Step 4
Connect the microphone to the amplifier and adjust the volume. Place another microphone on a stand next to the amplifier and connect it to a dedicated input on your computer. Open the audio editor and, if necessary, activate the track to which you will record sound. Then press the record button. As a rule, it is indicated by a red circle, like on old cassette decks. Start singing.
Step 5
If you want to record your voice with quality, singing the track from start to finish is optional. In studio conditions, songs are usually recorded in phrases, with each vocalist repeating several times for recording until it turns out perfectly even and accurately. Then move on to the next section.
Step 6
Other instruments are recorded in much the same way, but the chain may include effects processors, mixing console, and other equipment.
