A cocktail dress is a must-have outfit for trendy girls. Black or cream, scarlet or emerald - no restrictions. The main condition is an ideal fit model. Unfortunately, it is not easy to acquire such things, because the figures of women are strictly individual. Every extra centimeter of fabric can ruin your look and be disappointing. You have several options for solving this problem: the first is the hunt for a dream dress and constant fitting in stores, the second is an attempt to sew a cocktail dress yourself. Try it and you will succeed.
It is necessary
- - sewing machine, overlock;
- - scissors, needles, threads, measuring tape, ruler, crayons;
- - sewing magazines, tracing paper, pencils;
- - decorative ornaments, lace, buttons, braid, chains;
- - material.
Instructions
Step 1
Before going to a fabric store, decide what kind of outfit you are going to sew, how much footage you need, whether the fabric should be elastic, dense or transparent. Think over all the details so as not to miss small nuances, such as the presence of a zipper, buttons, braid or decorative elements. Be sure to check the purchased piece of fabric for defects, ask about the composition of the fabric, whether the finished product will fit or not.
Step 2
Using sewing magazines, find a suitable model and make a pattern for the required size of your dress. Pay attention to the correct measurement. Do not tighten yourself to appear slimmer, as this can lead to inaccurate measurements. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting a thing that is too narrow or wide for you.
Step 3
On the seamy side of the fabric, lay out the patterns, pin them with pins and cut them, leaving seam allowances of 0.5 - 1 cm. Start assembling the product from the basting of the front shelf of the dress, which consists of two parts: the bodice and the base. The model looks three-dimensional due to the presence of assemblies. Gather the sides of the bodice up to 10cm, then do two gathers in the center. The width between them should be no more than three centimeters. Tie off the bodice and base of the shelf, wrap the inner seam.
Step 4
Sweep the front and back of the dress by hand and try it on. The model should fit snugly around the chest and waistline, slightly widening towards the hips. Pin the extra centimeters with pins for marking. After that, make the side seams, process the edges.
Step 5
The upper part of the dress needs to be finished with piping. Trim the part you want from the material you are using. Processing is carried out in two steps. Sweep both parts by folding right sides together. Then unscrew the piping to the wrong side of the product and, stepping back 0.3 mm from the edge, stitch it along the edge of the front side of the bodice.
Step 6
Decorate the bottom of the dress. You will need three strips with dimensions: length 120-140 cm, width 5-6 cm. Wrap the details, then fold one of the edges of each strip by 0.5 cm and sew. Gather the fabric for ruffles. Sew the decor to the base of the product in a cascade, starting from the bottom edge. Each subsequent ruffle should hide the place where the previous one was sewn. Carefully sweep the junction of the ruff along the width of the product along the side seam.
Step 7
Decorate the finished outfit with thin lace ruffles. Attach them along the entire length of the dress, leaving a width between each of up to 3 centimeters. Try to decorate so that the ruffles hide the seams of the gathers on the bodice along the front of the shelf.
Step 8
Make the straps from velvet braid or metal chain to give the outfit an original look. A pair of decorative buttons or large beads can be attached to the bodice.
