The fauna never ceases to inspire artists. Images of fluffy four-legged animals invariably touch, delight, amuse the audience. The classics of this "genre" can be called portraits of dogs. They can be painted with a variety of materials, but a drawing made with watercolors will be especially vivid.
Instructions
Step 1
Take watercolor paper and place the sheet horizontally. Draw a vertical and horizontal axis dividing the sides of the sheet in half. Determine the proportions of the dog and draw them in pencil sketch. On the horizontal axis mark the desired length of the dog. In this case, the center of her ribcage will be located approximately in the center of the sheet. Mark the height of the animal with two cuts - it is almost a third longer than the length.
Step 2
Use a line to conventionally designate the dog's spine. It deviates from the vertical axis by about 40 °. Divide the dog's height into four quarters. A quarter of the height will be occupied by the head. Draw its approximate shape. Measure the same distance upward from the ends of the dog's forepaws - at this level will be the chest. From this point, draw a segment horizontally to the left, gradually reducing the distance between it and the line that marks the spine.
Step 3
Measure the height of your dog's head and take that value as your unit of measurement. One and a half such units will fit in the length of the dog's hind legs. When drawing paws, pay attention to the fact that the right paws in the figure will be located slightly lower than the left ones.
Step 4
Refine the shape of the dog's head. Visually divide its height in half - at this level draw a corner of the open mouth. Just above the trapezoid with rounded corners, mark the dog's nose. Divide the remaining distance in half again and draw the eyes at this level.
Step 5
Color the drawing with watercolors. Use a mixture of light brown and ocher as the base color. Apply the resulting shade with a thin layer on paper. Those areas that appear almost white due to bright light, immediately wash off with a clean, damp brush (on the neck, front of the legs, near the nose and above the eyes). Gradually darken the rest of the dog's body, choosing different shades to convey volume. Apply the densest brown on the side of the animal and on the neck under the ear. When the large spots of the fill are dry, work on the details with a thin brush or watercolor pencil - apply subtle strokes slightly darker than the base color to convey the texture of the coat. Lastly, fill the background of the drawing with color.
