An integral part of computer strategies and role-playing games are scenarios or, as they are also called, missions. As in real life, in the game its hero has to solve a particular problem, consistently go through the "stages of a long journey" and achieve the goal set for him. The attractiveness of the game for the user and its commercial success largely depend on the competent development of the mission.

Instructions

Step 1

Start by creating a storyline for a game campaign. Consider the ability to change the plot over time. Both the details of the mission and the entire plot basis can be subject to change. This approach allows you to keep users' interest in the game, make it more dynamic and exciting.

Step 2

Develop a campaign structure or sequence of related campaigns. As a rule, game stages are linear in nature, therefore, you must first select the order of passing the stages. For example, the mission may consist in the consistent participation of the player in the formation and development of several historical eras, the active protagonist of which is the game character.

Step 3

Start working on the key points of the plot. Determine the fate of the main and secondary characters. It is possible that one of them is destined to become a traitor, another is in wait for death, and the third will confidently pass all the tests assigned to him by the script. The more unpredictable the development of the storyline, the more chances for the developer to gain the trust and sympathy of the players.

Step 4

Use classic brainstorming to develop your initial campaign plan. To do this, arrange a working meeting for everyone involved in the creation of the game scenario, and discuss the main features of each individual mission that make up the entire campaign. In order to remove restrictions, it is not recommended to include formal project leaders in the group, otherwise their authority will not allow free discussion. All proposals are subject to consideration, including the most incredible; criticism is prohibited.

Step 5

After a while, re-work the plot. After creating the initial outline of the mission, you will find that some parts of the plot need to be modified to fit in with other elements of the scenario. At this stage, additional characters may appear with new tasks and goals. Pay special attention to details that seem unimportant. In the East, they say: "The devil hides in the little things."

Step 6

Distribute tasks among the project participants and begin work on translating the scenario into reality. For example, designers are responsible for the creation and elaboration of the landscape, the placement of game characters on the ground, and so on. Programmers develop different behaviors that match the intended mission plan and its complexity.

Step 7

At the final stage, test the mission. This may take two to three weeks. Eliminate the identified shortcomings while checking the script's functionality. And remember, just like a good adventure movie, the mission must still be doable.
