Step 1
When knitting a crossed loop, two adjacent threads form a criss-cross pattern, in the old days it was called a cross-loop. If you knit alternately the purl rows with the satin stitch in the usual way, and the front rows - using the "grandmother's" method, you get crossed loops in the previous row.
Step 2
The difference between "grandmother's" loops is that the loops on the knitting needle are turned upside down. Such loops are knitted as follows: reshoot the edge loop on the right knitting needle, draw the knitting needle from top to bottom into the next loop so that the front wall of the loop remains unchanged on the left knitting needle. Next, pull back the back of the buttonhole, grab the working thread and pull it through the buttonhole. A loop is formed on the right knitting needle. Also transfer the previously knitted loop to the right knitting needle.
Step 3
There is another way of patterned knitting of purl crossed loops. When sewing purl crossed stitches, keep the thread in front of you. Insert the right knitting needle from left to right into the loop on the left knitting needle with a movement towards you, grab the thread towards you and pull the loop to the wrong side of the fabric. Leave the next loop on the right knitting needle, and discard the loop of the previous row from the left knitting needle.
Step 4
Above the crossed front loop, you need to knit the crossed purl, and over the purl, the front one. To reduce the number of loops in a row, it will be enough to knit 2-3 front or back loops together. Then two or more hinge posts will connect. The direction of these stitches will depend on how you knit the stitches.
