Cross-stitching allows you to make very dense and elastic fabrics. This is how our grandmothers knitted socks and mittens so that they would be worn as long as possible and retain their shape. By crossing the loops on the canvas, you can also decorate your product with a variety of embossed patterns.
It is necessary
- two working needles
- one auxiliary spoke
- wool thread
Instructions
Step 1
Learn to knit crossed loops using the grandmother's method. To get the front crossed stitch:
• the right spoke goes from right to left into the loop on the left spoke.
• Grab the thread from the back with a knitting needle (thread by knitting!).
• Pull the resulting loop to the right side of the knitted fabric.
Step 2
Cross the purl loop like this (now thread before knitting):
• the right working needle enters the left needle loop in the opposite direction - from left to right.
• Pull the thread to the wrong side of the work.
Try to knit a sample of the product only from crossed loops. At the same time, knit the facial ones over the purl crossed ones and vice versa.
Step 3
Tie simple patterns with cross stitches. When they are performed, the loops lie down with a cross either on the left or on the right side. This will depend on the given relief pattern. It is convenient to cross the loops like this:
• in the front row, knit the second loop after the first loop. The resulting cross will lie to the left.
• Knit (also on the front side of the canvas) the second loop in front of the first loop - there will be a cross to the right.
Step 4
Try knitting a swatch pattern using two criss-cross stitches. In the front and back rows, you should get: edge and 2 purl; crossing 2 loops to the right; 2 purl and again criss-cross loops. Before you is the thinnest pigtail. Such braids can be made with a width of 4, 6 or more loops (always an even number).
Step 5
Make a thicker flagellum - 4 loops wide. To do this, knit alternately on the canvas sample:
• 1 row: hem, 3 purl, 4 front, 3 purl, etc.
• Row 2: hem, knit 3, purl 4, etc.
• 3 row: knit the hem and purl loops, and put the first 2 knit stitches on the auxiliary knitting needle. We leave it before knitting. Next, we knit the next 2 front loops, finally - front loops from the auxiliary knitting needle.
• After a few rows, you will already have a beautiful plait-plait.
Step 6
Master these simple patterns, and then you can easily knit more sophisticated braids, as well as many other elegant reliefs. These are diamonds and rings, complex networks and various interweaving of braids and braids. And all this is based on simple crossed loops.
