Step 1
Before trimming the dracaena, you need to choose the best place for this procedure. It cannot be performed in autumn, winter and late summer, since during this period the plant prepares for cold weather and is in hibernation. If pruned at this time, the dracaena will be weakened and attacked by bacteria and insects. It is best to carry out this procedure in mid-spring.
Step 2
A clean and sharp knife is used to trim the dracaena. It must be wiped with cotton wool moistened with ethyl alcohol. The cut is made at a height of 20 cm, but so that at least 10 cm remains to the top. The tool must be sharp so that there are no torn edges left. Before you cut the dracaena to obtain lateral shoots, you need to prepare the necessary materials: antiseptic, growth stimulant, sphagnum.
Step 3
As an antiseptic, you can use hydrogen peroxide, eucalyptus tincture or vodka. A fresh cut must be processed so that it dries up and does not rot. It is treated with crushed activated carbon. This needs to be done several times to completely dry the cut. Then they wrap it with sphagnum, put on a bag and fix it with an elastic band. This is done to provide the plant with a humid microclimate.
Step 4
After pruning, the dracaena requires special care. It must be sprayed regularly, adding a growth activator to the water. As soon as buds appear on the flower, additives are no longer used, and sphagnum is removed. By the way, the cut off top is not thrown away, but rooted to get another full-fledged plant.
