Not only the gift itself, but also the original packaging can please the birthday person. In stores, of course, you can find bright gift bags and spectacular boxes, but it's better to do the packaging yourself.

Step 1
A New Year's gift can be packed in a figured bag - a boot, a hat, a figurine of an animal, a leaf, a flower. Find a suitable image, enlarge it and transfer it to cardboard. Keep in mind that the bag will turn out to be flat, that is, in area it should be about one and a half times the size of the gift.
Step 2
Cut out 2 identical pieces. Thin cloth is best suited for such products, it is easy to cut and does not crumble. Along the outline, mark the places for the small holes into which the cord will be inserted. One side of the pouch should remain open.
Step 3
Punch holes. This can be done, for example, with an awl. Some fabrics are perfectly pierced by the most ordinary hole punch. Fold the pieces together and connect them with a cord. If the string is short, you can simply thread it through the holes. A long cord can be styled with a nice edge, like the one you get when you sew a buttonhole.
Step 4
The gift can be packed in a leather or velvet bag with an applique. Cut a long rectangle out of the leather. The short edges of the leather bag can be trimmed with curly scissors. Fold the strip in half with the wrong side out. Top off the side seams. Measure 3-5 cm from the edge and punch holes for the cord. The cord can also be made of leather. It is better to stick the applique on. Cut out flower elements from colored leather, make a pattern and glue with special glue that you can buy at a shoe store. If necessary, the elements of the pattern can be painted with leather paint. The birthday person will be able to use such packaging in the future for storing various little things.
Step 5
For a velvet bag, cut out a strip, fold it in half right-side in, and sew the side seams. Fold the top edge by 0, 5 and 1 cm and hem, leaving a small hole. Insert nice braid. Lurex embroidery or beaded applique will look good on such a bag. It is better to decorate the product before sewing the side seams.
Step 6
Even the most ordinary shoe box can be turned into a spectacular gift wrap. For example, you can make a chest out of it. Cover the box and lid with colored paper or cloth.
Step 7
Decorate the box with an ornament. Colored paper with an adhesive layer is suitable for this. You can make a geometric or floral pattern, stick profiles of antique heroes, exquisite flowers, silhouettes of ancient castles or outlandish birds on the lid and side walls. Images are best done in solid colors. Drawings with pronounced contours, without fine details, are preferable.
