Comfortable ottomans are not always included in the set of upholstered furniture. Quite often they are bought separately. You can make the ottoman part of the headset using a cover made of the same fabric as the upholstery of the sofa and armchairs. You can sew covers for all furniture. Among other things, this will protect it from contamination.
It is necessary
- - ottoman;
- - upholstery fabric;
- - soutache or any other strong braid;
- - tailor's line;
- - lightning;
- - tailor's square;
- - sewing machine;
- - bobbin threads;
- - a needle;
- - graph paper sheet;
- - pencil.
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the ottoman. If it is rectangular, you need to know the length, width and height of the soft part, the total height and length of the legs. Draw a rectangle on graph paper, the dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the soft part of the ottoman. Draw side strips. The width of all of them is equal to the height of the soft part, but the length is determined by the size of the corresponding side of the main rectangle. If the fabric is wide, you can cut a solid side stripe or make it in two pieces.
Step 2
Calculate the size of the frill. Its width is equal to the height of the legs. The minimum length corresponds to the half-perimeter of the main rectangle. Add about 0.5 m to this measurement for assemblies. You will need two such strips. Based on the dimensions of the parts, calculate the required amount of fabric. The frill can be cut both along the longitudinal and transverse.
Step 3
Move the pattern to the wrong side of the fabric. Cut out the parts, not forgetting to leave 1-1.5 cm for allowances. You can grind with the most common seam, in this case linen is not required at all. If the fabric is heavily crumbled, the sections can be processed immediately with an overlock or zigzag. It is better to hem the fringe in advance too. Sew a short seam on the two-piece strip.
Step 4
Bring together the side pieces of the ottoman without frills. Fold the long and short strips right sides together, matching the short cuts. Sweep and stitch the seam. In the same way, attach another long strip and another short one. Iron the allowances.
Step 5
Baste the strip to the main rectangle, matching their right sides. Baste and stitch around the entire seam. Fold back and iron the allowances. Do not sew the ends of the long strip yet. You ended up with something like a tissue box.
Step 6
Sew fine stitches at the top of the ruffle with a needle-first seam and gather. Align the top of the frill with the open edge of the box, baste and stitch. An open corner cut can be simply hemmed. But you can, for example, sew a zipper there.
Step 7
Cut 4 pieces of soutache 50-60 cm long. Fold them in half and sew from the wrong side of the cover to the corners where the frill meets the side. These ties are needed so that the ottoman cover does not slip.
Step 8
The round cover is sewn in the same order. First, cut out a square whose side is equal to the diameter of the ottoman. Cut out a tape that is as wide as the padded side of the ottoman and as long as the circumference. For ruffles, increase the circumference by 1.5-2 times.
