Initially, the saw is sharp and easy to work with, but over time, the teeth become dull. Accordingly, you are faced with a choice of three options: buy a new saw, contact a professional, or sharpen the saw yourself. Let's consider how to implement the last option.

Step 1
Take a close look at the saw. Your task is to understand how the saw was originally sharpened and restore its sharpness, and not come up with your own ways. Typically, the teeth are sharpened from the inside of the tooth to the outside, from the front and back of the tooth.
Step 2
Next, secure the saw blade in a vise, teeth facing up. The saw must be fixed so that the sharpening is even and symmetrical, otherwise, later, during work, it may begin to "lead" to the side.
Step 3
Start sharpening the teeth with a file from the saw handle to the end. Do not apply too much pressure to the tool - you can bend or even break off the prong. It is unnecessary to sharpen for a long time - usually three or four movements are enough. An important point: it is advisable to sharpen all the teeth with the same number of movements. That is, if you sharpened the first in three movements, then the rest must be sharpened in the same way. Don't try to achieve razor sharpness - you don't need to. You need to bring the saw to the point where it is easy to scratch, but if you put your finger on the edge of the prong, you will not cut yourself. Excessively sharp sharpening will disappear after a couple of minutes of work, leaving a completely blunt edge.
Step 4
If the saw blade is long and the vise does not grip it all, then rearrange it in the vise while sharpening. Otherwise, the flexible blade will wiggle from side to side, which will reduce the quality and accuracy of the work.
Step 5
Look closely at the sharpened saw again. Somewhere, you might accidentally press too lightly on the file, and the sharpening turned out to be weaker. Such flaws should be eliminated, or even better not allowed at all.
Step 6
The final touch of sharpening is the setting of the saw. Proper routing is almost as important as sharpness. Due to it, sawdust is removed from the cut, and the blade does not get stuck during operation. An undisturbed saw will constantly jam, the work will be time consuming and ineffective. Therefore, this issue must be taken seriously. So, put the saw back in a vise and take the saw set. Spread the saw teeth in different directions one at a time. For different saws, the width of the setting is different, usually 0.3-0.5 mm in different directions. The optimal setting for each saw is to bend the teeth to the thickness of its blade. For two-handed saws - one and a half to two times more.
Step 7
Remove the saw from the vise and inspect carefully again. Eliminate the found flaws in the wiring, if any.
