The face of an elderly person is a very interesting material for an artist. Today we will try to paint such a portrait with oil paints. They will show all the grace of curved lines.
It is necessary
Fiberboard sheet, acrylic paint, oil paints, turpentine, palette, brushes
Instructions
Step 1
Make a preliminary sketch. Take a # 1 flat brush and trace the outline of the head with blue-green acrylic paint. Begin to place the main features of the face by showing the lines of the eyes, nose and mouth and matching them with the line of the ear. Draw three long, vertical lines.
Step 2
Start distributing the light and shade. Prepare a liquid wash of the same blue-green paint and paint shadows in the folds around the eyes, nose, and inside the auricle. Remember that when the paint is absorbed and dry, it will take on a more soothing light tone.
Step 3
Apply skin tones. For a flesh tone base, mix cadmium yellow and carmine, then add white in varying proportions to create a variety of shades. Apply a rich tone to the nose and forehead, then use a colder, paler tone to define the browbone, cheekbone and crease above the upper lip.
Step 4
Work on the background. Use a mixture of phthaleic blue paint and a small amount of cadmium red to paint the background while refining the silhouette of the man. Against a dark background, the head will look especially distinct; in addition, it will allow you to more accurately distribute tones in the next stages of work.
Step 5
Add light colors. Mix cadmium yellow, carmine, phthalein blue, and white. With the resulting dark flesh tone, mark the shaded areas on the side of the face and neck. Show with a light line the highlights of the light on the head. Apply a pale-toned patch to the left shoulder of the model.
Step 6
Write eyes. The eyes should be written out carefully and at the same time not overloaded with details. This is a pretty daunting task. Start with the eyebrow - paint it with a mixture of carmine and a little phthaleic blue, lemon yellow and white. Go back to the blend you used for the background in step 4 and paint over the upper eyelid and pupil. By mixing phthalein blue paint, cadmium red and some lemon yellow paint, paint on the hair.
Step 7
Refine your mouth. Apply darker tones around the mouth, adding a little bit of white to the mixture used to reproduce the hair in the previous step. Paint the light reflected from the lower lip with a pale flesh tone. Resist the temptation to "paint" the mouth - just apply the desired tones and you will see how the outlines of the lips begin to emerge.
Step 8
Write a shirt. In a pale tone, write light stripes on the shirt, then add dark stripes with a mixture of virid paint and carmine. Draw the darkest stripes with almost pure virid paint.
Step 9
Add some highlights. Having obtained a pale flesh tone, use the impasto technique to apply thick strokes depicting highlights on those planes of the upper part of the head that reflect the light falling on them.
Step 10
Work on the eyes. Take the # 0 brush and with a reddish brown mixture add a small but extremely important shadow in the corner of the eye.
