Step 1
Measure the circumference of your head. You will need this value to calculate the number of loops required for the base of the hat. Multiply the head volume in centimeters by 2 or 4 (depending on the thickness of the yarn).

Choose a pattern and determine the knitting density. Various types of elastic bands are traditionally used for men's hats - 1x1, 2x2, English, French, etc. This knit looks quite sporty and appropriate. Colored models are often represented by ornaments of several colors, made with regular face loops.
Step 3
Work in the pattern of your choice and determine the knitting density. Cast on the circular knitting needles the base number of stitches. Don't forget to add 2 edge loops.
Step 4
Knit 13-15 centimeters with an elastic band. Some rubber bands are taut, while others fit more loosely. During knitting, control the thread tension, which should be optimal. In the process of wearing, tight elastic bands can cause discomfort. Elastic bands that are too loose will not hold the hat.
Step 5
Knit the main fabric of the cap. Calculate the required length of the cap. To do this, you can measure the distance from the elastic to the crown of the old hat. Knits stretch well, so it's important not to make the hat too big. If possible, do a few fittings while working on the hat. If you are working without a model, then make a margin for the volume of the head - the hat will settle and stretch a little during the wear process. You need to knit a man's hat with the selected main pattern. You can continue knitting with the same elastic band, you can change the pattern.
Step 6
Cut the loops. Start decreasing the stitches evenly. Divide the canvas into 7-8 pieces and subtract one loop at the end of each piece. You can knit a men's hat without decreasing the loops, if the model requires it. Rectangular hats, pulled together at the end, look stylish and modern, but such models should be voluminous and spacious in their main part.
Step 7
Finish knitting. Pull the thread over the remaining ten loops and sew the edges of the cap.
