French knots are great for making the embroidery appear three-dimensional. They can be used to embroider lamb wool, flower centers, facial features and clothing items. Oddly enough, this type of embroidery did not appear at all in France. It's just that at one point, handicrafts from China came to this country. French needlewomen liked the unusual seam, and they tried to repeat it. They succeeded. True, the French knot is somewhat different from the Chinese.
It is necessary
- - a thin embroidery needle;
- - the cloth;
- - canvas;
- - floss threads.
Instructions
Step 1
Take the thinnest needle you can choose for this seam. Of course, it should be with a wide ear. Only neat French knots look beautiful, and a lot depends on the choice of tool and material. Thread the floss in 1-2 additions.
Step 2
Secure the thread in the same way as you always do. If you combine this embroidery with a cross or satin stitch, secure the working thread with a few stitches, which you will then close with the main embroidery. When making the pattern with French knots alone, wrap it around one of the warp threads a couple of times. In principle, when performing this embroidery, it is permissible to tie a knot, as when sewing. But it doesn't look very nice. You need to wind the thread in the direction away from you. You need to bring the thread to the front side as close as possible to the place where the knot will be.
Step 3
Taking the needle in your right hand, pull the thread to the side with your left and pull it slightly. Wrap the working thread around the needle 1 or 2 times. The Chinese knot must be with one turn, the French with both one and two.
Step 4
Use a needle to pierce the fabric near where you brought it to the right side. Since the knots should be small enough, no more than 1 strand of fabric can be skipped. Holding the coiled turns with your thumb and forefinger, carefully pull the thread to the wrong side. Make sure that the knot does not creep.
