As a child, Dmitry was fond of several sports, but then settled on the sambo section. Brekotkin was engaged in sambo very seriously and became a candidate for master of sports.
After leaving school, Dmitry served in the army, and then entered the Polytechnic University. He did not like his studies and he went to the faculty called "Mechanical processing of non-ferrous metals" only because he had the smallest competition. As a result, two years later, Brekotkin was expelled for academic failure. Dmitry managed to work as a handyman at a construction site.
Studying at the institute was not in vain and it determined the further fate of the future comedian. In the student construction brigade, Dmitry met Sergei Ershov and Dmitry Sokolov. Sergey has been a member of the Uralskiye Pelmeni team since its inception, and he helped a new acquaintance become a member of it. Brekotkin joined the team and did not leave it even after being expelled from a higher educational institution. In 1995, the Uralskiye Pelmeni team broke into the Higher League of KVN. They played in it until 2007, and after that Dmitry began to try himself in various television projects - "Yuzhnoye Butovo", "Show News" and others. Brekotkin starred in several films. Catherine always supported her husband, even when he was expelled from the university and he was forced to work at a construction site. Dmitry is grateful to his family for their faith in him and their help. He believes that children helped him become who he became. They gave him a powerful incentive to move forward. After becoming a father, he could no longer afford to work in a low-paid job.
After the birth of their first child, the family decided to move back to Yekaterinburg. Living in Moscow was very expensive for them. Dmitry lived in two cities for many years. In the capital, he worked and took part in all the projects that were offered to him.
