Goose profiles, or semolina geese, are figures of birds on which hunters lure their prey. It is believed that a goose, like a herd (herd) bird, flies to them at the sight of its relatives. You can buy goose profiles in specialized stores, but foreign-made copies will not be cheap. Therefore, many hunters prefer to make semolina geese on their own, since it is not so difficult.
It is necessary
- - cardboard
- - plywood or hardboard
- - oil paints
- - wooden stakes
- - file
- - skin
- - chisel
- - jigsaw
Instructions
Step 1
Draw on cardboard and cut out a goose stencil. In size, it should be one and a half times larger than the bird itself, so that it can be seen by a flying herd of geese from a height. The optimal size in width from the beak to the tip of the tail is 60 - 90 cm, depending on the position of the bird. You need to draw a goose in profile, it is better that the bird is depicted either pecking (the neck is lowered down to the ground) or guarding (the neck is straight, the goose's beak is parallel to the ground).
Step 2
Using a stencil, draw a goose profile on a thick sheet of plywood or hardboard. When choosing material for semolina goose, remember that plywood is less moisture resistant, and the paint on it holds worse. Before applying paint to plywood, you will have to prime each profile with linseed oil (it must be heated) and wait until it dries completely.
Step 3
Cut the profile of the goose, depending on the material used, either with a narrow hacksaw or chisel, or with a jigsaw. Grind the edges of the profile with a sandpaper, you can use a file.
Step 4
Paint the profiles with moisture resistant oil paint. Add a little turpentine to the plywood semolina goose paint to give it a matte finish. The goose should be brown or gray with white stripes on the breast and under the tail. Make the beaks pale pink or black. Feathers can be drawn if desired, but they will still not be visible from a height.
Step 5
After the paint on the profiles has dried, cut a recess for the pegs from the bottom of each semolina goose. Make the stakes themselves from wood in advance, painting them in the same color as the goose (gray or brown). Note that the length of the peg depends on where you position the profile. If on land, it should be about 15 centimeters, if on water, then up to one and a half meters. The pegs can be either removable (inserted already in place, or screwed on (nailed onto small nails).
