Habitat
You can meet crucian carp in almost any body of water in Russia. It lives in rivers with not very fast currents, ponds, lakes, and sometimes even in swamps. If the water level drops significantly, the crucian carp begins to hide deep in the silt and remains there until the situation returns to normal. Crucian carp usually lives in thickets, so it is best to catch it from the shore.
Young individuals feed on plankton, while older ones feed on vegetation, crustaceans, worms, benthic organisms and larvae.
Favorable time for fishing
You can start catching crucian carp in early spring. Choose places where the water is well warmed by the sun. In summer, crucian carp behaves quite moody. In some cases, he may stop responding to the bait altogether. If this happens, try changing the attachment. The best time to fish is from dawn to 10 am. In extreme heat, it is preferable to catch crucian carp around noon, it is during this period that the fish bask in the sun.
Tackle
For effective catching of crucian carp, the simplest tackle is suitable. So, for example, you can use a light fishing rod 2-4 meters long and thin fishing line, since the crucian carp weighs no more than 3 kg. It is best to use a lightweight float rod. The bait can be black bread, cheese, bloodworms or worms. Remember, the stronger the smell of the bait, the better. You can mix black bread with vanilla and sunflower oil. Consider the location of the bait while fishing. It should not be on the surface or lie at the bottom. The optimum depth is 4 cm from the bottom.
