Acrylic paints have firmly established themselves as the leading artistic medium used in handicrafts and applied arts due to their brightness, water resistance, quick drying and ease of application. Acrylic paints can be painted not only on paper, but also on fabric, wood, plastic, glass, ceramics, and many other surfaces. This makes acrylic a versatile art material, and you will soon find that it is very easy to handle.
Instructions
Step 1
When purchasing acrylic, make sure that all colors belong to the same manufacturer - this will make it easier to mix paints when painting. Unlike gouache, acrylic does not dry stain or crack, and does not require water to dilute. It is best to use a special acrylic thinner instead of water.
Step 2
Do not use bristle brushes that are suitable for oil paints - get quality synthetic brushes of different diameters and cross sections. In this case, do not forget to be sure to rinse the brushes in water immediately after the necessary strokes are made - the acrylic dries very quickly, and if the paint dries on the brush, it will no longer be possible to wash it.
Step 3
Depending on what exactly you are going to paint, purchase the appropriate paints from an art store - for painting ceramics, wood, glass, or for ordinary painting on primed canvas or paper.
Step 4
Acrylic paints are great for painting on fabric. In this respect, they are subdivided into plain acrylics for fabrics and paints for batik - they are suitable for lighter and airy fabrics (silk or chiffon), and have a liquid structure.
Step 5
If you are going to paint a shirt or T-shirt, buy ordinary acrylic paints for painting textiles. They are quite thick, adhere well to fabric and are resistant to light and water.
Step 6
When applying paint, make light and thin strokes, applying them at short intervals to each other so that the layers of paint have time to dry. This will set the design in place better than if you were applying a thick layer of paint.
Step 7
If you decide to paint a T-shirt, you will need a plain T-shirt, preferably made of natural fabric, as well as a sketch of the future drawing and paint in the corresponding colors.
Step 8
You can also use acrylic outlines, which are sold in tubes, to fix the edges of the paint, and also serve as an aesthetic decoration and complement to the picture.
Step 9
Draw in a spacious, airy room. Stretch the T-shirt on the inside of the frame and line the inside of the frame with paper or cloth to prevent ink from seeping onto the opposite side of the T-shirt.
Step 10
You can paint with a brush or using a stencil and spray acrylic paints. In the latter case, pay particular attention to respiratory protection.
Step 11
If you paint with a brush, first mark the outline of the drawing on the fabric with a pencil, referring to the sketch. Then start tracing them with acrylic outlines and filling each element of the drawing with the desired color.
Step 12
Detail the drawing, modify it, and when you're done, leave it to dry for a couple of hours. When the drawing is dry, iron it with a hot iron through several layers of paper.
