Text editing skills are essential for anyone involved in one way or another with writing. However, no matter how strong the temptation is to correct absolutely everything in the text, one should remember the main rule of the editor - it is necessary to preserve the author's text as much as possible. You can only rewrite or add something to the source as a last resort.
Instructions
Step 1
The first step is to see if the text is written on the topic. Does it reflect the correct idea, and also does it have the necessary evidence. Also, see if the author made any logical or factual mistakes.
Step 2
Define the style and genre of the test. Check if the vocabulary and syntax of the text match them. Underline the words that, in your opinion, are not suitable for the given text, choose several appropriate synonyms for them. If necessary, break up too long sentences into multiple parts.
Step 3
Read the text carefully again. Check each sentence for syntax and grammar errors. If in doubt, consult the dictionaries for help.
