It is the largest representative of whitefish, weighs up to 50 kg and lengths up to 1.5 m. Nelma meat is distinguished by its high taste. Perhaps this is one of the best fish in Russia. But how do you catch her? This is not so difficult to do, it is enough to study her habits and choose the right time for fishing.

Nelma is a freshwater semi-anadromous fish. It is distributed in the rivers of the Arctic Ocean basin. Its concentration is highest in large rivers - Irtysh, Ob, Lena and Yenisei. Basically nelma lives in deltas and estuaries of Siberian rivers. And to the spawning grounds, which are located in the upper and middle reaches, this fish begins to rise immediately after the ice drift (June-July). After about two 1, 5-2 months (in August and September), it reaches the southern regions of Siberia and enters numerous streams and rivers. But not every river is chosen by fish for spawning. Entering the river, nelma walks along the very channel, keeping closer to the bottom. With further advancement, the fish often rises to the uppermost layers of the water. And it avoids rifts and shallow places. Ascending to spawning grounds, nelma destroys a large number of small fish. Feeding her is similar to feeding asp. It hunts for small fish very energetically - it bursts into the school and stuns the fish with its tail, and then collects the lost prey.

Choose a fishing spot. It is best to fish on the territory of the main river bed, located in the narrowest place. Here the current is faster and the depth can be more than 2 meters. Catch the nelma not in the stream of water, but in the side where the current is slightly weaker. Also, this fish can be found in the pools. There she tries to adhere to the border of shallow and depth.

To catch nelma, use large, narrow-bodied spoons and spinners. It is better if they are silver in color, matching the color of vendace fry or smelt, which the nelma is used to feeding on.
