Gardens in a bottle are a wonderful and original interior decoration. The main design feature is the microclimate that forms inside the vessel, high humidity and the absence of drafts, making the plants feel comfortable.
It is necessary
- - glass or plastic vessel;
- - soil;
- - drainage;
- - plants.
Instructions
Step 1
Pick up a vessel for the future garden. It can be a plastic or glass bottle or jar, an aquarium, a vase with a volume of at least 0.5 liters. It is advisable not to use vessels made of colored glass, since it traps light, which will have a bad effect on the development of plants. Rinse the containers thoroughly with baking soda. Pour boiling water over two to three times and dry.
Step 2
Find a substrate suitable for the plants you plan to grow in your mini garden. It can be a ready-made universal soil, a mixture of peat and sand for succulents and cacti, or perlite. Pour the substrate onto a fine sieve, pour boiling water over it and let the water drain.
Step 3
Pour drainage into the bottom of the container. Small pebbles, shell rock, sand, i.e. any material that will easily pass through the neck of the bottle. Shake the vessel to level the drainage. Roll a funnel out of a thick sheet of paper. Pour soil into the bottle through it.
Step 4
Find plants for your mini garden in a bottle. For a start, it is best to take unpretentious balsams, coleus, tradescantia, succulents, cacti. Microclimate in a closed container according to the taste of tropical plants, for example, peperomia, fittonia, pilea and many others. When combining plants, consider whether they are suitable in appearance and growing conditions.
Step 5
Use a stick to make a depression in the soil. Take a stalk or small plant with small roots with long tweezers. Dip it into the groove and dig in with the same tweezers or stick. Plant all other plants in the same way. The cuttings take root very quickly in the vessel. Within 5-7 days, they will have strong roots, and the plants will begin to develop rapidly. Decorate the surface of the soil with beautiful pebbles, rinse them under running water and scald with boiling water.
Step 6
For watering, make a groove, for example, from a piece of a plastic bottle. Water your garden by gently pouring room temperature water over it. Watering should be frequent in summer. The lack of moisture is immediately noticeable. Reduce watering frequency in winter. Feed in the same way as for regular plants every two weeks, but reduce the recommended dose by half.
