Phalaenopsis is a beautiful and unpretentious orchid species that tops the list of the most fashionable houseplants. She can delight with flowering for a month or even more. After this beautiful pore, some growers do not risk removing the peduncle from the phalaenopsis, believing that it bears some kind of benefit to the plant.
Peduncle in a home orchid: prune or not prune
Experienced flower growers still recommend, without a shadow of a doubt, trimming the peduncle of the phalaenopsis. However, before that, you should carefully examine the plant. If the condition of the leaves and roots is good, and the tip of the peduncle is green, most likely new buds may appear on it, and the home orchid will again delight with its long flowering. In this case, cutting off the peduncle would be a crime. True, the orchid will not bloom so soon. It is often necessary to wait for one to three months for re-flowering. However, it's worth it!
If the tip of the peduncle has changed its color, that is, it has become black, yellow or completely dried up, there is no longer any hope of the appearance of new buds. In this case, it is necessary to cut the peduncle, but not completely, but only the upper part. This should be done just one centimeter higher from the nearest sleeping kidney.
After pruning, one of the buds can wake up faster and form a baby or a new lateral peduncle. Only this can also happen in a few months. If you want to wake up the bud as early as possible, place the plant in a hot area. The best option would be a room with a temperature of +28 - +30 degrees. Also during this period, Phalaenopsis requires high humidity. To do this, you need to spray it regularly. It will not be superfluous to put a container of water near it.
How to speed up the flowering of phalaenopsis
The likelihood of a new bud or baby forming on an old peduncle is not very high. If you do not want to wait until the bud wakes up on the old peduncle, cut it off completely, to the very base. With proper care, within a few months after the removal of the old peduncle, a new one will form in the phalaenopsis. You can also speed up this process. To do this, it is necessary to reduce watering and place the home orchid in a place where there will be a noticeable difference between night and day temperatures, at least 6-7 degrees.
