Ordinary plastic bags used for packaging can be a good craft material. Bright, durable, low-maintenance bags are used both for making interesting toys and for creating useful things in everyday life.
The plastic bags available in our homes in sufficient quantities are practical and convenient when used for their intended purpose. But lately, polyethylene more and more attracts the attention of those who love handicrafts. Inexpensive, durable and colorful bags allow you to create amazingly beautiful crafts.
Making stickers
If you have bright plastic bags with beautiful pictures at hand, then they can be used to make original stickers on clothes. To do this, a picture or a desired fragment of it is cut out of the package, applied with the image upwards on the front side of the garment and covered with a sheet of baking paper.
The paper should be gently ironed with a hot iron. Along the edges of the sticker, the iron can be pressed harder against the fabric, holding it for 5-10 seconds. After that, the sticker is allowed to cool, and then the paper is carefully removed.
It is important to remember that it is not recommended to use plain paper - writing or for printers - for making a sticker. Polyethylene can stick to it and the applique will not work. If there is no paper for baking, then corrugated packaging for cakes can replace it. In this case, it is important to ensure that the working surface of the iron does not go beyond the paper.
Flowers and garlands
You can create delicate, beautiful flowers from multi-colored plastic bags. To do this, you need bright polyethylene, which is cut into identical strips. The size of the future flower will depend on the width of the strip. The long edges of the strip are glued with tape in a contrasting color - this will create a beautiful border around the flower petals. The strip is folded like an accordion, both ends are rounded off with scissors, in the middle it is tied with a strong thread to make it look like a bow.
After that, each petal is straightened, and a flower is formed from the strip. It can be used both independently and to create a garland. Garlands of flowers of different sizes and different colors look most impressive.
If you fix the flowers from the bags on a solid base in the shape of a circle, you get a very stylish wreath. The wreath can be additionally decorated with beads, twigs and ribbons.
Pom-pom toys
If you cut plastic bags into narrow strips and fasten them together to increase the length, then cute toys can be made from the prepared material. The strips are tightly wound on two paper rings with a hole in the middle, after which the polyethylene is cut between the rings, the workpiece is tightened with a strong thread and a fluffy pompom is obtained.
Having prepared a sufficient number of pom-poms of various colors, you can begin to form toys or practical rugs for the bathroom or hallway from them. Pom-poms for the rug should be fixed on a solid base, which is ideally suited to a mosquito net - it is convenient to thread the threads through its holes that hold the plastic pom-pom together.
Pom-poms for toys are fastened together either with the help of a wire frame, or sewn with a thread, after which they are decorated with additional elements: eyes, nose, etc.
