Instructions
Step 1
If you are just planning to make a "semi-antique" masonry, then the designers advise you to purchase a brick in advance that will imitate ancient stones. They can be used both in solid masonry and in decorative elements.
Step 2
If you want to age an existing wall, then this can be done in the following way: take coarse sandpaper and rub the desired area of the surface so that a network of irregularities forms on it. Antique bricks cannot have straight edges, so take a hammer with a small chisel and gently beat off the edges of some of the bricks.
Step 3
In order for dark spots and charring effect to appear on the brick, it is necessary to take a blowtorch and "burns" all over the brickwork. A similar effect can be achieved by using different acids for the same purposes.
Step 4
To further age the masonry, it is necessary to wipe the seams with earth. Some designers advise to shove ordinary moss, which can be brought from the forest, into the cracks.
Step 5
The final stage is to protect the artificially aged masonry from moisture. For this, a heated mixture of turpentine, wax and paraffin must be applied over the entire surface of the masonry. This will not only provide it with moisture protection, but also make the brick matte and even more ancient in appearance. Another option is a standard protective coating for bricks, which can be purchased at any hardware store.
Step 6
If you want to simultaneously change the color of the masonry, as well as age it, then interior designers are advised to take for this purpose acrylic paint that matches the color and apply it to the brick with a regular sponge. This will give the coating the effect of antiquity due to the peculiar porosity of the coating.
