There are many instructions on how you can make your own torch from available tools. And these instructions have their own differences, but in general they boil down to the same thing: to prepare a hot composition and impregnate a torch with it. Let's take a look at how to make a torch in detail.
It is necessary
- Part of vegetable (for example, flaxseed) oil;
- Five parts of beeswax;
- Four pieces of rosin;
- Tow;
- Twine or hemp rope;
- Tweezers or forceps;
- Wooden stick.
Instructions
Step 1
After preparing the mixture in a water bath, tow, previously wound on a stick, is impregnated with it. And now in more detail about everything: in addition to tow for winding, you can also use cotton fabric, cut into ribbons. Tow can be bought at a hardware store or in the market, fabric - at the appropriate store. The wax is usually sold in the same places as honey. And it is better to take rosin in radio stores.
Step 2
The mixture you get will be sticky and difficult to wash. It is liquid only when heated. To prepare a combustible mixture, it is better to use dishes that you will not regret to get dirty.
Step 3
Grind the rosin with wax to melt it faster. The wax is perfectly cut with a heated knife blade, and the rosin can be placed in a regular plastic bag, and then crushed with something hard.
Step 4
Pour crushed wax and rosin into a saucepan and put on fire. Stir the contents of the pot from time to time to melt it quickly until smooth. Then place a pot of liquid composition near a fire source or in a water bath. The main thing is to make sure that the mixture does not thicken, otherwise you will have to melt it again. Having soaked the pan with the combustible composition for a couple of hours, begin to immerse cloth or tow tapes in the mixture.
Step 5
Make sure the fabric ribbons are completely wet. Do not immerse them all at once and in a lump, but gradually. Once the fabric is completely saturated, pull out the tip with a pair of tongs. Next, wrap the soaked cloth around the stick, turning it (stick) gradually. There should be no excess mixture on the torch so that it does not drip when the torch burns. After winding a few tapes, take a few more, but dry and wrap the torch tightly with them. After that, firmly squeeze the torch with your hands so that the dry cloth absorbs the excess mixture.
Step 6
Now count down about 10 cm from the end of the wrapped fabric and wind several layers of twine or hemp rope there. This will help prevent scalding of your hand if suddenly a few drops of excess combustible mixture start flowing down the torch handle.
