When renovating premises, walls are often decorated with modern non-traditional materials, for example, foil. Sticking foil on the walls has its own characteristics that you should know so that you do not have to redo all the work. So, we are getting ready to glue the metallized wallpaper.

Foil, wallpaper glue, wrapping paper

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the walls. To do this, they must be treated with coarse sandpaper, washed with an ammonia solution and primed with an acrylic compound. If a fresh layer of plaster is applied to the wall, it should dry well. Seams on dry masonry walls must be covered.

Step 2

Before applying the foil, cover the walls with high-quality pasting paper. This paper absorbs moisture and allows the walls to be smoothed out. Pasting paper is used for uneven surfaces such as block walls, ceramic stone walls and paneled surfaces.

Step 3

Now prepare the foil. Trim the edges of the foil to the full length (this process has nothing to do with trimming the edge of conventional traditional wallpaper). Foil should be handled with extreme caution. Avoid scratching and creasing the surface of the material.

Step 4

Lubricate the wall with glue (however, you can also cover the base of the wallpaper with glue). Don't use too much glue. Any bubbles that appear should be removed immediately, since the foil does not stretch or shrink after drying. If you cannot smooth out the bubbles, pierce them and gently release the air.

Step 5

Smooth the foil vertically so that the wallpaper does not warp or bend around the edges. One of the variants of foil sticker is “overlap”, while one sheet should overlap the other by no more than 1 mm. After gluing, roll the seams with a dry roller.
