Dollar tree - zamioculcas

The real name of the dollar tree is zamiokulkas. It is an evergreen plant from the African tropics. The branches of an adult plant are rather large, covered with dark green, shiny leaves. The flowers are modest, in the form of a small yellow cob, wrapped in a green blanket. They often go unnoticed, since they are practically at the roots. Leaves are discarded only in case of unfavorable conditions, for example, dry earthen coma, illness.

Landing

You cannot plant a young plant immediately in a large pot. The container for planting must be selected in accordance with the root system of the zamiokulkas, add 5 cm from the sides, 10 cm from the bottom.

You can choose a special soil, but it is also suitable for palms and succulents. It is imperative that it contains sand or other loosening components, for example, perlite.

Do not plant zamiokulkas in garden soil or peat. In the first case, there is a high risk of infecting the plant, in the second, high acidity will quickly destroy the flower.

Care

It is advisable to place the dollar tree on the east or west windowsill. Direct sunlight causes leaf burns, reducing the decorative effect of zamiokulkas. A large amount of damage will kill the plant.

Easily withstands shading, but develops faster in good lighting. It grows well under artificial lighting, daylight hours in this case should be at least 12 hours.

The dollar tree does not like frequent watering. The top layer of the soil should dry out. But too long a drought negatively affects the appearance, the tree begins to turn yellow and shed its leaves.

If the plant lives in a temperature-controlled room, light watering once a week is sufficient. Be sure to pour out the water from the pallet. If the temperature differs depending on the season, watering is reduced or increased. At temperatures up to 15 degrees, watered once every two weeks, from 15 to 20 times every 10 days, from 20 to 27 times a week. If the temperature is above 27, watering can be done more often, focusing on the condition of the soil.

Top dressing is carried out infrequently, once a season. Fertilizers are used for decorative foliage plants.

You should not use sleeping tea or coffee as a dressing. They certainly contain many nutrients. But in order for them to become available to the root system, they need to be mixed with the soil. Scattered on the surface, they become moldy, impede air circulation and increase soil moisture.

Reproduction

Zamioculcas, a dollar tree, reproduces very easily. You can germinate leaves, twigs, or parts of them. The planting material is simply placed in moist soil, covered with a bag or other transparent material, and removed to a warm place protected from direct sunlight.

After the roots appear in the drainage hole, they are transplanted into a pot.

Stick to these simple rules, and your plant will invariably delight you with a healthy look and stable growth.
