The harmonica is a fairly common musical instrument. The sound in such an instrument is reproduced by vibrating copper plates that are inside the accordion. In order to learn how to play this instrument, you need to know three basic techniques for setting lips and tongue, relative to the accordion - whistle, u-shaped blocking, tongue blocking.
Instructions
Step 1
Whistling technique.
Inexperienced accordion players first try to play one note with this particular technique. It is quite easy to learn, but at the same time it is limiting.
To play with a whistle, you need:
1. Purse your lips as you would when whistling.
2. Take the accordion to the lips, keeping their position.
3. Select any one hole in the accordion, then try to focus your lips on this area. Direct air flow directly through this hole. If you hear a clear sound, it means that your lips are in the correct position.
Step 2
U-lock.
This technique requires you to "fold" your tongue into a "U", with the right and left sides of the tongue blocking the outermost holes.
1. Taking a harmonica in your lips, try to cover 3 holes.
2. Place the tip of your tongue in the hole you want to play.
3. Having folded the tongue into a letter "U", close the two extreme holes, the central one should be open. Inhale and exhale.
When you learn to reproduce clear sound in one hole, try to move to others. By practicing this way, you will soon be able to play the tunes up and down.
Step 3
Tongue blocking technique.
The tongue and lips are used to isolate the holes from sound reproduction. This technique is most popular with experienced accordion players because it is the easiest way to tune from note to chord.
To use this technique you need:
1. Place the harmonica on your lips, and try to keep it as deep as possible, but allow you to breathe freely.
2. Cover 4 holes with your lips.
3. With your tongue sticking out, move it to the corner so that it covers the 3 outermost holes.
4. Inhale and exhale. With this position of the tongue, air should only pass through one open hole. If you don't get a clear sound the first time, relax your tongue and try again.
