Many growers believe that it is difficult to grow clematis and they are very moody. Others, on the contrary, say that growing clematis is a rewarding occupation, you just need to understand them and show a little care. But they both agree that clematis are extremely beautiful. These plants have many benefits. They are very popular and compete with climbing roses.
Clematis are long-lived plants. In one place, they can grow for about 80 years. Therefore, it is so important to initially plant the plants correctly, taking into account all their preferences.
- Clematis do not tolerate northerly and north-westerly winds. Therefore, they do not need to be planted in drafts.
- They do not like the "swamp" in the root zone. Clematis should not be planted in lowlands where they cannot bloom.
- Clematis do not grow in acidic soils. It is necessary to deacidify the earth twice a season by adding dolomite flour or Gummi. The first time - in early spring, the second time - in late autumn.
- Magnesium should always be present in dressings, which has a significant effect on flowering. Loamy and peaty soils are poor in magnesium.
- In the first half of summer, fertilizers with a high nitrogen content are used. In the second, they give increased doses of potassium and phosphorus. The best mineral fertilizer for clematis is potato fertilizer. It contains everything you need in the right quantities: nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and trace elements.
If in dark-colored varieties of clematis suddenly the color color becomes pale, its bright and saturated color is lost, dirty and dull shades appear in new disclosed flowers - this indicates soil acidification and a lack of magnesium. In this case, it is necessary to dilute the dolomite "milk" and shed the root zone of the clematis.
