As one of the most exciting and versatile hobbies, fishing has won the hearts of many people around the world. Hunting for predatory fish species, in particular for pike, is very popular among anglers. There are many ways to catch this cunning and cautious predator, but the most interesting, perhaps, is to catch pike with live bait.

It is necessary

  • - tackle for catching live bait: scabbard, cradle with a fine-mesh net, fine-mesh nonsense, top;
  • - regular or spinning rod, or "circles";
  • - spinning reel, metal leads, heavy weights and volumetric floats (in the case of fishing with a line);
  • - triple hooks, fishing line;
  • - boat (in case of fishing with circles - obligatory).

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your pike fishing gear. If fishing will be done with a fishing rod, equip it appropriately. Choose a rod that's strong and flexible enough. A spinning rod is not a bad option, since it is compact enough, but at the same time allows for long casting. Install a spinning reel on the rod. These reels are equipped with an adjustable "ratchet" that protects the line from breaking during sharp jerks of the fish. Roll 20-25 meters of strong line about 0.4 mm in diameter onto a reel. Attach a float, lead, and triple hook metal leash to the line. In the case of fishing in circles, wind 1.5-2 meters of fishing line around them with a steel leader and a triple hook at the end. It is also advisable to use a sinker.

Step 2

Get some live bait. Rudd, bleak, roach, young carp and perch 6-10 cm long are suitable as live bait for pike hunting. You can catch such fish in ponds and shallow rivers. The easiest way is to use a carrycot or top. Nonsense fishing is more troublesome, but it can give a much faster result.

Step 3

Identify fishing spots. Pike should be hunted in its feeding areas. Such zones are coastal thickets of reeds, islets of vegetation in the middle of a reservoir, small bays and bays in which fry and small fish gather.

Step 4

Fishing for pike with live bait. When using a fishing rod, simply hook a live bait to the hook, cast and wait. If there are no bites within 3-5 minutes, throw the tackle to another place. Move along clumps of grass or reed beds in order to spot the pike. When fishing with circles, carry out their sequential installation from the boat in several places. Move between the circles periodically, adjusting their location and monitoring the condition of the live bait. Watch the circles carefully for timely detection of a bite.
