For a realistic, beautiful image of a hairstyle with a braid, it is necessary to take into account the volume of the hair in the drawing, reflect in detail the peculiarities of weaving and highlight areas of light and shadow.

Step 1
Think about what kind of hairstyle you want to portray. You can draw a braid rolled up on the head, braided with a "dragon" or choose the traditional Russian version, starting from the back of the head.
Step 2
Select the braided area. To do this, draw two parallel lines, the width between which corresponds to the thickness of the braid. If you are drawing a "dragon", the auxiliary sections should widen slightly at the bottom, because as weaving, additional strands are added to the original strands, and the braid becomes thicker.
Step 3
Start drawing the braid from the place where it begins to weave. Draw rounded lines from the edges of the selection towards the center. Each next dash should start slightly lower than the previous one, located on the other side. At the end of the braid, draw a bow, elastic band or hair clip.
Step 4
If you are drawing a "dragon" (also called a French braid), draw smooth lines from the edge of the hair growth to the center of the head, they should correspond to the strands involved in the braiding process. That is why the number of convolutions on the braid itself should be equal to the number of these curls.
Step 5
Start coloring. To accentuate the braids and the natural shine of the hair, highlight the most prominent parts of the braid with a lighter shade. Observe the direction of hair growth. Also, consider where the light is coming from to highlight the shaded areas. This is especially important if you are drawing a braid around your head.
Step 6
Be aware that regrown hair and strands at the crown of your head may be lighter than others due to sun exposure. Therefore, make some parts of the head lighter. This is especially noticeable for owners of light brown hair. Faded curls can be depicted on the sides of the head if you are drawing a French braid. This will make your hair look more natural.
