Solo is a fragment of a piece in which one playing instrument (or voice) stands out against the background of the accompaniment. Depending on the general mood of the piece, the solo can be fast or moderate, often contrasting with the main theme.
It is necessary
- - solo instrument;
- - sheet music or other recording of the solo part;
- - metronome.
Instructions
Step 1
In pop music, it is customary for a soloist to compose his plays on his own in accordance with his abilities and strengths. There is no such liberty in classical music, but solo learning is the same for both types of musicians.
Step 2
Play the first 2-4 bars of the solo, slowing down the tempo of the solo three to four times. Pay attention to the clarity of each note. On your keyboard, release the previous note in time. On strings, move your finger along the fretboard in time and muffle strings that shouldn't be played. On any instrument, keep an eye on the evenness of playing in rhythm and dynamics, perform the strokes.
Step 3
Gradually speed up the solo section until you achieve the original tempo. To be faithful, even exceed it by about 10% in order to have a head start in concert performance. Then play slowly again. Thanks to this technique, you will not only achieve high speed, but also maintain the clarity of your performance.
Step 4
Control yourself with the metronome. It can be a mechanical metronome from Melzel (a pendulum with an adjustable weight) or a computer program. Pay attention if you have a tendency to speed up or slow down individual notes.
Step 5
Practice the rest of the solo in the same way, breaking it into parts of 2-4 measures. Practice a difficult passage according to the principle: slow - medium - fast - slow.
Step 6
Set aside rehearsals from half an hour to two hours a day. You won't be able to learn a solo in one day, even if you spend 8-12 hours on it. You will get tired, but you will not make solid progress. On the contrary, regular practice and repetition of the learned passages will increase your chances of learning a quick solo.
